A chance to do some good - moderator at the "other"

For political arguments, religion arguments, etc... Stay out of here if your hide's thin and you're easily offended. Because you will be.

My experience is one of being wrong all/most the time when disagreeing with the mods over there, one in particular.
If my ability is so limited, per their reply to some of my questions/posts, I better be looking for another job, because I am a know nothing appraiser, per their prespective.

I think, by many of the mods posts, most should not hold themselves out to be reviewers!

The security people over there like to think that their status is similar to having a designation which is ridiculous. I put them in the same category as those volunteers you see at the county fair parking area wearing orange vests, waving 5 cell flashlights and yelling at anyone who doesn't obey them completely, and God help the poor motorist who giggles at their silly outbursts.

I'm not high enough in the hierarchy to be of help or maybe even to be taken seriously. Anybody know where a concerned, simply certified general appraiser is needed to do some good for the profession? I'd even change my membership if there was an outfit out there that cared about the whole profession and the problems it faces.

I recall now CL, I share your intentions to do positive things for our profession even while I am impatient about what is going on, but my efforts to realize my intentions are not accepted or maybe they aren't acceptable. Whatever, that is the way it has been and still is.

The AI is a club. A fairly exclusive club. I have found that they are friendly and helpful... if the activity you are proposing will make the organization money. Take classes, become an associate member, work toward a designation... these are the activities the club exists to further. They are not particularly interested in any other activity an uninitiated person would like to undertake, which is probably as it should be.

Bullshit, they let you and me in, how exclusive could that be. Gee, and I thought it was the "other" forum that bashed the AI.

Here is some additional info on that, just in case anyone didn't see it...

They let anyone in who has the money, but among appraisers that is a fairly exclusive group. Put the emphasis where it belongs, I'm not bashing anyone:

As always, everybody is obsessed with the other forum over here. Yeah, complaining about them over here will really help, LOL Move along little doogies.

Typical "Once a year" Duckie post - see ya next year.

How come you don't participate and post more here - it's an open and free forum where we've never banned anyone. Yet you protest when someone, anyone, complains here about the other side occasionally. How about adding instead of taking the offensive?! :WM: :WM:

Actually, there isn't much activity over there anymore, anti HVCC tirades by appraisers who have been in the business all of 3 years and dreadfully boring debates between the moderators.

Sorry Otis, but I banned that spammer the other day, so you can no longer say we've never banned anyone.

FWIW, the Memphis Chapter of AI is open and friendly. I live about 90 miles from where they meet quarterly. I'm an associate member, and two years ago was assigned as Chairman of the Government Relations committee for the chapter. That's an army of one, BTW. I'm now the Sec/Treas elect for 2010. Biggest problem we have is getting people to volunteer for these jobs. We've got a near-perfect 50-50 mix of residential and commercial members. I'm an experience review away from getting my letters and getting the privilege of having my dues nearly tripled. We'll see whether that designation results in any more business coming in. And I've got to do it. The way things have worked here for years is you get Sec/Treas one year, VP the next, and Chapter Pres the year after. Along the way, they send you to the LDAC (Leadership Development Advisory Council) for classes in chapter leadership, and meet-and-greet with the higher-ups in the national structure. But one has to be lettered to hold the office of President or to hold any regional or national office.

If your local AI chapter is too commercial oriented to suit you, join it and begin to change it. We've all had to put up with people we dislike in business situations. This is just one more such situation. You won't change the organization by standing on the sidewalk carrying signs and making rude gestures. Get in and get dirty. Associate dues are pretty cheap right now. If there aren't enough residential members in your chapter, recruit some. AI is still hands-down the best source of educational materials, and has the best chance of influencing legislation.

I wouldn't be here at all if it wasn't for the silly "we miss you, Daffy" e-mails I keep getting. I log on here every two weeks and I can read everything I missed on one page. You guys need to learn that you will never rise above your competition if you have to rely on complaining about them here.

Attack? I can be much more brutal than that!

I would post more if this forum actually was intriguing enough. So, improve this forum if you want more participation...or is Otis incapable of realizing the truth about his personal playground?

Once again Otis makes comments and accusations he can not support. Can you prove I only post once a year, Otis? I didn't think so. Why would you put things in print you can not support? Wouldn't that qualify as a moron moderator?

The other place always struck me primarily as a group with a collective IQ that didn't exceed room temperature in January.

Comprised mainly of greenies asking sophomoric questions, or Crusaders on a mission from God.

There's exceptions to the rule to be sure...but for the most part its reminiscent of cliques on a high school quad.

Is there a reason to disrespect Mr. Otis? He’s a knowledgeable, competent appraiser and seems to be a nice fellow for the most part. Who said these forums were competing for anything? There are at least half a dozen appraisal forums at last count. Are you referring to the white trash forum? The one where 80% of the members are marginally literate and do nothing but whine about the HVCC and losing their sole source of business from an MB who is probably a family member?
