Fraud Scheme Involved 55 Properties, Mortgages Totaling $29.2 Million

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 60-year-old former real estate appraiser pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to wire and bank fraud in a scheme that involved 55 properties and mortgages worth $29.2 million.

Barry C. Westergom faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a fine of $1 million, according to United States Attorney A. Brian Albritton.

The name is familiar. The FREAB revoked his ticket back in 2006. When I get back from the AARO meeting I'll check to see if I have some info.

Prosecutors said Westergom used inappropriate comparable properties and other fraudulent means to set appraised value significantly higher than the agreed purchase price and the true market value of the property.


Wonder what he got paid for doing that....
