House Panel Probing Mortgage Practices

House Panel Probing Mortgage Practices
A U.S. House committee announced Friday it is investigating whether lenders deliberately used deceptive practices to persuade people to buy property during the boom.

A key part of the probe will be subpoenaing Countrywide Financial Corp., said New York Democrat Rep. Edolphus Towns, chair of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Countrywide was the largest U.S. mortgage lender before the company was bought by Bank of America in July.

Towns said the probe is exploring "whether mortgage companies employed deceptive and predatory lending practices or improper tactics to thwart regulation, and the impact of those activities on the current crisis."

Why can't politicans do something BEFORE a crisis occurs? :WM:

They want to investigage something...they should investigate why NOBODY did a damn thing a bout an appraisers petition with some 10% of nationwide appraisers signing the damn thing!

That’s something that still amazes me. There were what, about 10,000 signatures? To print it would take about 25 pages? Hell, that’s far less the average loan package Maybe it’s because we’re now in the video age and the bozos in charge will pay more attention to a 30 second emotional rant on YouTube about someone’s ARM being raised than to something with substance. I’m through with ever being a policeman in this business, I’ll make a few dollars as a sanitation man and when things bottom out, I’ll raise the privateer flag once again.
