My Philosophy

Postby Jim Plante on Sun Aug 19, 2007 12:57 pm

If we can dignify it with the term "Philosophy."

Banning a member: In my opinion no Admin should unilaterally ban a member except in the most extreme or urgent of circumstances. That does not mean that you won't ever see someone banned from this site. But before we take that extreme action, there'll be a lot of behind-the-scenes activity. The staff will review the proposed ban, and the reasons for it. If the proponent of the ban fails to achieve a clear consensus among the admin staff, the member won't be banned. If a consensus is achieved, the member will be allowed to defend his actions, or repent of his sins, and another review will be held.

Pictures: We've just had a review of a questionable picture and our hosts said, "Take it down." If your pic displays any really interesting stuff (and you know what I mean), then don't post it. Our forum could be deleted without notice for this sort of thing. Read the host's reply to my inquiry in the Break Room, the Men's Room, or the Ladies' Room.

Word censorship: I've always been irritated by that little routine on most forums that replaces "fart" with "****". What happens is that the poster will simply go around the censor and type f@rt, or something like that. Sure, I could set the word censor to filter for all possible permutations, but why? This is an adult forum, and while we don't actually *need* profanity to express ourselves, as adults we sometimes make the choice to employ it. I'm reminded of a scene in a Charlie Sheen movie, where Charlie's witness called the plaintiff an asshole. Other side objected. Witness said, "You find me a word just as descriptive and I'll use it." Charlie's character moved for a hearing on whether the plaintiff was an asshole, and could be so referenced.

No language is censored. You're all grownups, and can decide for yourselves whether or not to use these words.
