Ventilation Hood

Postby benluby on Thu Nov 08, 2007 11:02 am

Here's a question. Measured a property today. Is a ventilation hood over the range required? Majority of properties I've seen have them, this is the first time I haven't seen one. (House built in 2003). I can't find anything in the HUD handbook that says yea or nay.

No requirement that I've ever heard of unless you ask my wife. :rof: Not having it makes keeping the walls and cabinets in the kitchen clean a tough chore. I think you may find that extracting an adjustment to be impossible since agents don't list those items. If it were a commercial kitchen, the building & safety code does require the hood fan and sprinkler system in my area. You may call the building inspector for you jurisdiction to see if it is included in the most recent residential building codes.

In general, no not required.
But if there is a hole where there used to be one, that could be different...

Thanks Guys. Just wanted to be sure. It is a complete remodel (previous tenants trashed it), and there is no hole for a vent hood.

When we remodeled, we did away with the vent hood because we installed a down draft range/oven. Is it possible they had one, as well?

No. It is your typical $350.00 electric range that you can get just about anywhere. I was just wanting to verify the hood issue, as it is not common.
