Is this deteriorating or just becoming appraiser distracted? I swear to god you're all ADD. _________________ Edd “In the real estate economy, there are no guarantees that reason will prevail in a market where emotions run high and the amount of misinformation runs deep.” Jonathan Miller in The Matrix. The answer is that the Admins would confer, and consider complaints, hurt feelings, disruptive quality, and any other relevant factors. We would decide by a clear majority whether further action was necessary. If so, one of us would be tasked to contact the offender and tell him/her to mend his/her sinful ways. If s/he kept sinning, s/he would begin to have trouble logging on. A lot of trouble.
We're not going to wield the banning bat just for the hell of it, or to make everyone wear formal gowns, tailcoats, and stick up their ass just for the privilege of being here. But we won't let un-housebroken pets tear the place up, either. |
The answer to all of these questions is very simple .... and it is found in a Rowdy Roddy Piper quote:
"I have come here to kick ass and chew bubble gum .... and I am fresh out of bubble gum ..."
If someone came in here, purposely being a complete and total dick .... it would be up to the admins to make a decision ... in the event that the admins couldn't be convened, readily, then the person would be dealt with ... quickly .... and then the action would either gain a blessing or a reversal, once it was discussed .... if the admin who made the decision feels stongly enough about it, it will likely be upheld ...... otherwise, it is subject to discussion and joint decision arrived at ...
... which means, roughly, that Annemieke will get her way ... Greg will gripe about it .... Jim and I will say "Whatever" and Otis will ask if he can be an admin before it happens again ..... _________________ Tennessee State Certified Residential Appraiser

Sidenote: if this thread does go South... I am really anxiously awaiting to cross the border back in...

This forum doesn't appear to have the problems of another forum I am aware of, at this point in time.
As it grows and more people join the test will then be in the pudding.
I like this forum better than any others I have become aware of. There are more than just the "other" forum.
I will be interested in watching it as it grows. All things have growing pains, IMO.
Taking this forum into adulthood could see some similar issues of other forum sites, unless we as a whole decide to maintain respectful approaches to each poster. _________________ Bill Caudell

It's already happened, Marcia. At least, with one individual.

Yeah, I have so much work I almost had to measure a house myself today. Good thing I have 5 trainees!! Of course I inspected!

Adjust for concessions? Why?

I made a wild guess that he might be Bobby Bucks. Others disagreed. I'm not sure what happened to him... I guess he just got bored when no one rose to the bait and faded into the woodwork.
Can you imagine what would have happened if someone had posted such things in Wayne's World?
Over here it's different. Because everyone is free to say anything they want (subject to the host's rules, no porn, etc.) no one gets very upset. That makes it even possible to have posts by someone like Skippy... whether or not it is tongue-in-cheek.
And, because there is no underlying feeling that someone (mods... favored users) is getting more equal treatment, there is no rush to judgment or need to prove your point. Over here I get along really well with several members I used to clash with on a regular basis over there.
I want to state again (as I do every time this subject comes up) that I have nothing against AF. In fact, I am very supportive of them and what they have done for the profession. My name is still on the petition. I'm just here most of the time instead because I like the freedom.
"Nothing is better than the freedom." - Colin James | Nothing happened to him - he's still around. And it was not Bucks. This site is what is because of the fact that people joined it for honest feedback without a whole bunch of BS. I, for one, have admitted I misread or misinterpreted a question or thread --------- here and on the other one. To me, that's a true professional (not to mention adult or human being) to at least you made a mistake.
I have only moved a few threads to keep them in the structure of the site. I've deleted duplicates. I haven't had it so easy as mod (I'm referencing having a trainee, supervision of work and other items along that line) in my entire appraisal career. Heck, I've even turned other appraisers in my state that I thought were good appraisers.

Admins,
Thanks. I'm glad you will deal with the worst disruptive behavior.
I can ignore Hateful, try to educate Ignorant, and pity Stupid but I confess to being easily exasperated when all three qualities are found in one person.

This is a great site, by the way. My compliments. Success in any endeavor can be achieved if you are smart enough to understand it and care enough to do it well.
I am impressed with the smart and caring appraisers on this site. Kudos to you all.

It's because Daffy is so nice hear, Dummy! |
It's spelled h-e-r-e, dork.
Gosh! Given your lack of spelling ability you must be a lousy appraiser. |
Knew you'd catch that. You get the Otis award. _________________ I haven't a particle of confidence in a man who has no redeeming petty vices.

Actually I agree that people will post differently depending on how they perceive the audience. In conversations where I'm confident that the other participants are well versed in the regs and don't waste energy in trying to get around them I don't worry about being misunderstood even if I use slang or shorthand language.
That in itself is very relaxing.
I get a lot more uptight when I think there are hundreds of newbies and skippies reading everything I say.
