OK - it's bad to make fun, but....

I find it really funny that someone with the last name of "Crooks" got in trouble for failing to disclose having a criminal history.

Thanks for the info Frank - I did notice a consistent "penalty" that I find rather interesting (since I watched several of the webcasts of FREAB meetings and found them very interesting, as well as humorous [you do have a rather good mannerism of controlling things]) -- that was the fact that the onces who weren't revoked or voluntary surrender all received, in addition to possible other fines, "attend "X" (2) two-day FREAB regular meeting." Just an observation.

Again - thanks for posting this.
Don't believe everything you think ;)

What are they SMOKING?

Attending a meeting of the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board as a condition of discipline is often referred to as "Appraiser Jail" In all seriousness, it is meant to be an educational experience for the respondent; an opportunity to see what other folks have done, how the FREAB reacts and how to avoid finding themselves in a similar predicament.

Interestingly enough, during smoke breaks in the courtyard, (we meet on the 9th floor and there is no smoking in the building) many of the appraisers attending the meeting for discipline come up to let me know how much they are learning and how it helps them. Of course, there are always those unwilling to talk about things. Several of the folks the FREAB has disciplined continue to attend for their own benefit and insist their Trainees and others in the office attend too.

Attending can be expensive (and thus a detriment to further infractions). Florida is a big state. The travel and time away from work costs money. The FREAB has imposed appraiser jail on out of state appraisers too. I remember one guy from Texas. We talked quite a bit. He was not bitter, but quite appreciative of the learning experience.

It is unlikely for a second time offender to receive the education option for discipline. The FREAB has been more consistently insisting upon terms of suspension and revocation for repeat customer.
