Upgrading the Forum

Postby Jim Plante on Sun Aug 24, 2008 7:17 am

Okay, folks, I've done it.

At about 06:09 CDT 8/24/08 I applied to FreeForums to upgrade us to v. 3 of the forum software. The change won't be immediate, but look for it to happen over the next couple of days. FreeForums handles upgrade requests in order of application, so there may be hundreds ahead of us.

This new software will give us some new capabilities, but it will also create some inconveniences as your Admins learn how to operate it. This is kind of like moving from Day One to ClickForms. It's different. From the user's standpoint, it won't be *that* different, but I'm sure I'll manage to mess something up.

The board will look a little different, but I'm keeping the present default theme, or "skin." We can now have sub-forums, so look for the interface to be changed up. There are several other new capabilities that I'm sure you're going to enjoy.

Admins, bend over. This thing is way more complex that version 2, so we've got some catching up to do. You can check out the problems others have had by going to http://forum.freeforums.org/. Feel free to ask the support guys about any problems; you don't have to go through me. Interested members may do that as well; we don't have any deep, dark Admin secrets here.

Wow... this is a different look. I like the smilies being on the right to just click rather than having to open another tab. Cool, but gonna have to get used to it.
Ya can't keep trouble from visitin, but you don't have to offer it a chair.
