Posting photos

When you want to post a photo, there are three ways to do it on this board. Hit the reply or new topic button, and get the post editor displayed. Right at the bottom of the window in which you enter your text, there's a link in small blue type which says "• Add image to post." Clicking that one will let you upload an image to ImagePoster.com and automatically include a thumbnail of it in your post.

The other link further below is for adding attachments. You'd use that one to post an Excel, PDF, Word, or other file. You can add images with that one, too. Otherwise, adding images inline using the IMG tag requires that you upload your photo to Photobucket.com or some other image hosting service first (that's the third method). For photos, that first method works easiest.

See my post in the Test section for examples of the ImagePoster and file attachment methods.

We got that because FreeForums' parent company bought ImagePoster, and they provided a modification to PHPBB to enable us freeloaders to use it. This outfit does a great job of hosting, and is improving their service all the time. I still haven't figured out how in hell they make any money.

Let's hope that they actually do have a business plan to make a profit. I am reminded of the early days of the internet... I used to use an ISP called freeweb dot com. It was dial up, but completely free of charge... even had newsgroups, which is a major time consumer for any ISP. Needless to say, they disappeared... I think the way they made money was by selling out to another organization, who promptly told all the subscribers that "it will be $19.95 per month" from now on.
I haven't a particle of confidence in a man who has no redeeming petty vices.
