We need a mission statement. Suggestions welcome.

Postby Jim Plante on Tue Aug 14, 2007 2:03 am

As the title says, we need to compose a mission statement for this forum. Ideally, it should ultimately be reduced to a single sentence, but mission statements can run to a paragraph. I think we have more than just a single purpose.

As suggestions arrive, in whatever section of the forum I happen to find them, I will edit this post to include them. If I miss any, somebody PM me with the thread link. Check this post from time to time to see what everyone's added -- JP

What do you want this forum to accomplish? Here are some suggestions to get you started:

    * To provide a central clearing house of current and correct information for appraisal professionals.
    * To provide a friendly and congenial meeting place for appraisal professionals.
[s]* To provide professional mentoring to new appraisers.[/s] (We can do better...)
    * To provide a platform for appraisal professionals who enjoy the free exchange of thoughts and ideas.
    * To provide an environment for a meeting of the minds, conducive to the practice and professionalism of appraisers, and appraisal business.
    * No narcissists
    * We are creating an enviroment of pro-active professional education, supportive of free speech and the open exchange of information. We believe in conveying our opinions of value for the sake of the general welfare, economy and reasonable and lawful personal gain for our work-efforts. Our intention is to boldly go where few underwriters, loan officers or mortgage brokers care to remain: keeping values between the phone poles and letting folks contribute to the greater good of these United States, by contributing to commerce, business growth and homeownership. We intend to have some fun and acquire friends along the way.
    * Independent discussions dependent on independent minded appraisers from the youngest and least experienced new appraiser, to the wisest, oldest and most experienced appraisers amongst us, in our land, which is, the longstanding foundation of the economy of our United States of America.

Let's see YOUR ideas for what you want the forum to be, and what you want it to accomplish. This post is our brainstorming board, and there are no right or wrong suggestions. The staff will review these suggestions this weekend, and try to have a semi-finalized, preliminary, tentative mission statement by next week.

This is a task which absolutely demands your input. Our logo--even the very structure of this board--depends on what we want to do. And "what we want to do" is set forth in the mission statement.

Keep'em coming. We'll start narrowing it down when we've got enough to choose/consolidate from.

This forum, founded on the basis of freedom of mammaries, is to serve as a centralized meeting point to argue politics and religion, share conflicting methods and to blast ZAIO, ZILLOW, AVMS and the use of words such as ALOT and IRREGARDLESS.
I bet you do gamble!!

Let's take a different approach to this. Besides finding Bobby Bucks (which might turn into a long-term project), what would you like to see us do in the short term--like, right away? How about long-term?

Christina a.k.a. Tina's contribution is going to be hard to beat.

But....somebody's gotta find the Buckmaster.

His wit & brains would be a real contribution.

None of the above are either right, wrong or set in cement. Let's here YOUR ideas for what you want the forum to be, and what you want it to accomplish.
Good up until the "provide professional mentoring to new appraisers" aspect. That could be one of those "gotcha's" when some trainee would attempt to use the info and communication from here as potential hours, not to mention, I can't mentor someone 1,500 miles away. I can provide a different point of view, constructive comments and support.

I think the idea of the forum should be to exhange information about real estate appraising, mental blocks for appraisers, support amongest other professionals, support and advice to newbies/trainees/apprentices and the open and honest exhange of ideas.

Just some thoughts.
Don't believe everything you think ;)

What are they SMOKING?

My 2 cents....

A platform for appraisal professionals who enjoy the free exchange of thoughts and ideas.

The Buckster emailed me today. He's alive and well and wondering What the hell happened at the Forum?

Gave him this address, who knows if he'll show.

Folks, Here is a boon opportunity to build a board (create a home) and paint it the way you want, you get to pick your own carpets and couches! If you let the screen door to hit you on the way out of the placeat before... or if you wanna leave the door open it matters not: You will build more and better if you ya quit jawing about who said what when and where.

Just build it and they will come, either to visit, or to grab a hammer and saw an help you build. Long live Freedom of Speech!

Damn, I surely do miss Randy Beigh

FWIW posters anywhere who let their panties get in a wad, and kneejerk react, sit exactly in the discomfort they deserve.

So in light of that:

We are creating an enviroment of pro-active professional education, supportive of free speech and the open exchange of information.

Feel free to edit delete or come up with your own you clowns! At least _I_ tried!!!
If at first you don't succeed; try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it. ~WC FIELDS~
